Lightning storms converging on Northern California

Daniel Swain@Weather_West·

Greatest risk of lightning (vs high based showers) will probably be overnight as trough axis provides a focus for deeper convective development, but there’s a slight chance that some of the cells moving northward today could produce some strikes before that (there are nearly continuous C-G strikes still being detected in the moisture plume west of Los Angeles, FWIW).

Red Flag warning for Mt. Shasta/McCloud

Despite the RFW, the outlook has improved somewhat. Thunderstorms are now expected to form east of us and move north east. Still lots of potential for ignitions, but at least they won’t be in our immediate backyard.

Red Flag Warning Red Flag Warning is effective from 9/9/2021, 1:00 PM through 9/10/2021, 9:00 AM

Areas Affected: Modoc County Except for the Surprise Valley; Siskiyou County from the Cascade Mountains East and South to Mt Shasta

Summary: …Scattered Thunderstorms on Dry Fuels Thursday Afternoon Into Friday Morning… .Southwest winds will be gusty and strong again east of the Cascades on Thursday afternoon as an area of low pressure moves towards the region. This low will bring a chance for showers and thunderstorms from the Cascades eastward from Thursday afternoon More Info
