The newest Cal Fire operations map released early Wednesday morning gives a sense of where the Caldor Fire is in relation to landmarks like Heavenly, Kirkwood and the city of South Lake Tahoe.

Overnight, the fire crossed the 200,000 acre mark and continued to burn parallel to Pioneer Trail up toward the state line, but there was mostly good news for the Tahoe Basin.

“We’re fortunate the fire did not make as strong a push into Tahoe as it did the previous day,” Cal Fire operations section chief Tim Ernst said. “A lot of great work is being done here along Highway 50 moving down into the basin.”
