Dixie Fire explodes to 142,940 acres

Per KRCR: The Dixie Fire grew by about 29,000 acres between Thursday night and Friday morning. As of 6 a.m. Friday the Dixie Fire has burned 142,940 acres and remains 18 percent contained in Butte and Plumas Counties.

Firefighters are facing unprecedented dry conditions in steep terrain, hampering control efforts. The incident meteorologist said the hotter and drier weather this weekend will add to the challenges faced by firefighters.

Cal Fire expects the Dixie Fire will continue to rapidly expand, causing a need for the critical resources to control, and manage the incident. Fire crews will continue using/opening up old control lines from the Bear Fire and the Chips Fire.
