Our forecast has gone from nasty to scary. We have five straight days over 100, unheard-of here, with forecast highs of 105 and 106, both of which would set all-time records here. I know it’s nothing compared to what the valley faces, and you all have my best wishes, but it’s not normal for here. Not normal at all. I think this heat wave is going to kill people.
STEPS TO FOLLOW: We’re putting water bowls out for the local wildlife. Our feral clowder of cats have lots of shade, a cool place to hang out, and access to water and food. Our housecats will cheerfully go out and bake their brains out, but can come in at will. The garden got extra water this morning, and will get double rations at 7am and 8 pm. See to your pets, and perhaps leave a bowl of fresh water out for local wildlife. Check your cooling system, make sure it’s prepared. Keep fresh cool water at hand in case the power goes out. If you have elderly neighbours, check in on them, especially in the evenings. And above all, BE FIRE SAFE!!!
