It’s only the beginning of summer, and it’s already been a busy start to fire season across Siskiyou County.

With hot temperatures, dry fuels, and windy conditions, it does not take much for a small mistake to turn into a fast-moving wildfire.

Please help do your part to prevent the next fire:

Avoid outdoor burning on hot or windy days (it can wait)

Check trailer chains so they are not dragging

Never park or drive on dry grass

Use equipment carefully, especially during the heat of the day

Fully extinguish cigarettes and never toss them from a vehicle

Keep defensible space around your home clear and maintained

One spark is all it takes.

Our firefighters and fire partners are already working hard this season. Let’s not make their job harder by causing preventable fires.

Stay alert. Stay prepared. Stay fire smart, Siskiyou.
